Miami Marine Stadium
Miami Marine Stadium, an architectural gem on Biscayne Bay shuttered since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, was a popular venue for speedboat races and concerts by artists as diverse as Jimmy Buffett, Ray Charles and Afro-pop superstar Fela Kuti. The daringly innovative stadium, designed by Cuban exile Hilario Candela in 1963, was designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a “national treasure” in need of saving.
